Medical Technology Forum: Birth of the Core Facilities

On Monday, 15 October 2018, the who-is-who in the field of medical technology comes together in the capital city of Upper Austria. Starting at 1 pm, experts in the field of digital health, medical materials and mixed-reality simulators are going to provide an overview of the current state-of-the-art in these thematic areas as well as a glance at the future. The highlight of this event, however, is going to be revealed in the evening, as the six newly-built Core Facilities of the TIMed Center are officially presented to the public.

For the 15th time in a row, the University of Applied Sciences Upper provides a special program for manufacturers, consultants and other interested visitors working in the healthcare sector: In the context of the annual Medical Technology Forum, which is going to take place at the faculty Linz, eminent guest speakers from the field of science and business are going to share their knowledge and experiences with an expert audience.
After a brief introduction speach, the first two parallel sessions of the day are planned to start at 1:30 pm: Here, visitors have the choice whether to be informed about the status quo and obvious trends in the area of digital health or to hear something about the progress in the development of hybrid surgical simulators. In the thematic block digital health, which is expected to last one-and-a-half hours, the audience is presented topics like the algorithm-driven identification of relations in biomedical data, challenges in terms of telemonitoring, the real-time visualization of biological processes as well as therapeutical antibodies. At the same time, the other lecture series entitled hybrid surgical simulators is going to treat topics like artificial bones and tissue as well as the accurate validation of simulators.
After a brief coffee break, the second round of parallel sessions is expected to start at 3:30 pm. This time, the audience is again free to decide which special interest group they want to join: In the thematic block medical materials, the visitors are granted insight in 3D additive manufacturing, medical active ingredients carriers and functional food, whereas the second part of the lecture series hybrid surgical simulators is going to focus on simulators of vertebral columns and kyphoplasty. Furthermore, the participants of the second thematical block are encouraged to test the presented simulators themselves.
After these sessions, the visitors of the Medical Technology Forum are invited to eat something at the buffet and to exchange with other visitors in a comfortable atmosphere. This networking-dinner is followed by a special highlight: the presentation of the TIMed Center’s new Core Facilities. This point on the agenda is not only the culmination of the event, it is also expected to be the kick-off for a stronger cooperation between the science and the business sector in the field of medical technology research in the province of Upper Austria.
